Golf has a new color, and it is BLUE by Coach Rio Hawkins

Golf is a sport for adults and children alike. Here at the First Tee of Pittsburgh we try to open doors to the game of golf for children that might not get that chance otherwise, and for children that already have a passion for the game.  Pittsburgh police have partnered with Allegheny Youth Development to create a positive avenue to explore the game together. Every Tuesday the police officers show up in full uniform to our Pleasant Ridge golf center to volunteer and assist the lead coach. Their objective is to be positive and shine a bright light on this new collaboration and to bring golf to the inner-city kids. Watching the police officers with the players is so fulfilling and rewarding. The players have embraced the programming and have accomplished goals connected to the game.  At first I didn’t think this was a super good idea. The police are seen as bullies where I am from. This experience has changed the way I look at police officers as a whole. The compassion and patience of the officers are telling of a world that wants to change in a positive way.   Would you like to give back to the game and your community, like the Pittsburgh Police are doing?  Become a volunteer coach.
